Master of Sport Administration - Hybrid

Our MSA is offered as both a hybrid on-campus program and a fully online program. The flexible, hands-on curriculum emphasizes emerging trends in the sports industry, contemporary communications skills and cutting edge technologies used in sport administration. Coursework teamed with internships, travel abroad opportunities and industry events provides a broad education in business and leadership skills essential for success in the global sports industry.

Hybrid on-campus MSA

Our 42-credit hybrid on-campus MSA has both a business management core and a sport administration core. Students take 12 credit hours of Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses. All of these courses are part of our AACSB-accredited MBA program and offered through the Richard J. Wehle School of Business. The MSA sports core consists of classes that range from leadership in sports to sports law and contract negotiation to sports marketing. Students are also required to select elective classes and completed an internship.

Online MSA

Our 33-credit online MSA includes all of our core sport administration courses. Designed for those who prefer an accelerated track, it can be completed in one year.

Internship component

A 6-credit-hour internship, designed to be a hands-on capstone experience in a professional work setting, must be completed as part of the program. The internship may be completed with a sport organization anywhere in the United States or internationally, facilitating interactions with diverse groups of people from a variety of companies and organizations. Because of partnership agreements between Canisius and various organizations, students can choose from a number of sites for their internships. In many cases, MSA internships have resulted in employment opportunities for our graduates.

Master of Sport Product Development - Online

Our 100% online MS in Sport Product Development explores the development and management of the sporting goods industry product and market strategy across six targeted areas: competitive team sports, extreme sports, fitness, individual sports, indoor games and outdoor recreation sports

The program is 33 credit hours, which includes a 6-credit internship. After completing the core courses, students can choose to focus on either product design or retail management. Their emerging expertise will include knowledge in a specific area, such as product line management, product development, merchandising, innovation and materials management, and retail, brand or factory management.

Bachelor of Science in Sport Management - Campus

Our 60-credit BS in Sport Management program introduces students to one of the fastest-growing career paths in the country. Through a variety of hands-on experiences, including dynamic practicums and internships, they explore  the cultural and economic impact of the sports industry. Students learn about common sports law issues as well as the principles of sports marketing, promotion, sponsorship, advertising, merchandising and distribution.

Our Institute for Research in Sports (IRIS) offers timely workshops, guest speakers and networking opportunities. Under the guidance of faculty and alumni working in the sports industry, BS in Sport Management students can pursue independent research relevant to their academic interests in the sports industry, with the ultimate goal of having their work published.

Graduates of our BS in Sport Management program go on to work as sports agents, athletic directors, recruiters and scouts, team marketing professionals, public relations officers and contract specialists, to name just a few of the most popular career paths.
