The Sport and Recreation Management (SRM) program (offered both on-campus as well as fully online) at the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) is administered through the Business Department. The program prepares graduates for entry-level positions in intercollegiate athletics, professional sports, recreational programs, and the fitness industry. Job opportunities within the sport industry are numerous and varied with occupations ranging from sales/marketing, coaching, and facility management to representing athletes/coaches as an agent. UMC’s SRM major focuses on many facets: applying management and marketing principles to the sport industry, finance/economic issues unique to the sport industry (like salary caps), facility management, sport law/governance, sport ethics/leadership, and psycho-social aspects of sport.

In addition to the Sport and Recreation Management major, UMC offers the option of a Coaching minor (on-campus only). This minor focuses on issues related to coaching, such as working as a group, physiological principles related to sport/exercise, and principles of psychological skills training intended to enhance athletic performance. The Coaching minor is an option for many different majors, especially education where many students who wish to teach also want to coach.

Our program is recognized #7 for value in 2014 at and #6 as one of the top 25 best schools for online bachelor's degrees in sport management for 2015 at
