B.S. Sport Management and M.S. Sport Venue and Event Management Programs:

Our rigorous academic courses are taught by expert faculty recognized nationally and internationally for their work, which complements the Falk College’s commitment to experiential learning.  Both our undergraduate and graduate programs in sport provide unique educational and professional networking opportunities that connect students directly with sport executives and practitioners at sites of significance near and far. Recent travels of Syracuse University sport management students have brought them face-to-face with industry leaders at today’s top sport organizations and brands, such as the New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics, AEG Worldwide, the National Basketball Association, Fox Sports, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, and many others.  These purposeful hands-on learning experiences are hallmarks of the Syracuse University sport management experience. An established network of global partnerships with industry leaders, such as AEG Worldwide, offers unparalleled access and related opportunities to gain valuable training in multipurpose venues and facility and event management. Students will receive formalized training in multi-purpose sport venues and professional and intercollegiate sports, including football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse and indoor soccer, among other events.  Students will build critical skills necessary for managing events ranging from running competitions, concerts, monster truck shows, fundraising events, and festivals, to hosting a Super Bowl, NCAA basketball tournament or World Cup soccer event.

Department chair and sport management department founding director Michael Veley serves as ‘Voice of the Orange’ in his role as Carrier Dome play-by-play announcer. With tremendous industry connections on local, regional and national levels, he—along with other sport management faculty and staff—have helped students gain valuable experience in a multitude of settings and organizations, such as: the New York Knicks, IMG, NBC Universal, Madison Square Garden, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia 76ers, Tampa Bay Rays,  Boston Celtics, PMG Sports, Comcast-Spectacor, Kraft Sports Group, CBS Sports, ESPN, Houston Astros, Atlanta Falcons, and Baseball Hall of Fame.  Our students have obtained valuable experience working at NBA Exhibition games, NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regionals; NYS Special Olympic Winter Games; ESPN Game Days, Harlem Globetrotters shows,  major concert productions, and dozens of  other sport and entertainment events.

Hisung Nam (Benjamin) Graduate Student Syracuse University David B. Falk College
I do not approach sports as a fan, but as a business person. I would like to work in community relations for a professional sports league and I’ve been applying to many different sports teams for my summer internship. I hope to work and gain experience in MLB, MLS and the NBA. When I was looking for a Master's program in Sport, I visited the SU campus and loved the atmosphere. Syracuse University is one of the best private universities in NY with a strong D-1 athletic department. I like that the faculty and internship coordinators always have time to mentor me, plus they’re always inviting in industry professionals to campus so we can build contacts in the field even before we graduate.
