Forty years ago when the idea for an academic program built around sports administration came to fruition, one could hardly predict the level of complexity that the sports industry has become today. Through the years, the sports industry has continued to evolve, becoming increasingly global and more complex in its approach to business. As such, Ohio University’s Center for Sports Administration was founded to serve as a resource to solve the increasingly difficult issues facing the sports industry.
Master of Business Administration/Sports Administration (MBA/MSA)
The two-year MBA/MSA program prepares students for leadership positions by combining the business teaching of the Ohio University MBA program with sport-specific knowledge during the MSA program. The MBA program was recognized in BusinessWeek’s 2009 List for Best Business Programs. In total, the MBA/MSA program is a 24 month, 115 quarter hour program.
Juris Doctor/Master of Sports Administration (JD/MSA)
Prospective students with a previous graduate degree (e.g. law, business, or other approved graduate degree) or significant industry-related experience may be considered for the one-year MSA program. The MSA only option requires the completion of 55 credit hours over three academic quarters. Individual programs can be tailored to each student’s needs, experience, and career goals. Courses are chosen from the same Sports Administration offerings as the dual-degree seeking students, in addition to outside electives.

Professional Master of Sports Administration
Since introducing a Master of Sports Administration degree in 1966, Ohio University has long been recognized as the birthplace of sports education. Today, the College of Business, through the Department of Sports Administration, offers coursework leading to the Professional Master of Sports Administration degree in a manageable online format designed to meet the needs of practicing sports professionals. This 21-month online program will require three residencies on Ohio University’s Athens campus.
Bachelor's in Sports Management
The undergraduate Sport Management program at Ohio University is designed to provide students with the academic preparation and practical training required for success in the sport industry. The program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Sport Science and a minor in business.
