The MSU Denver Sport Management major prepares students to work in the growing and competitive sport industry. The program covers key areas, such as sport facility and event management, sport and social media, governance and management of amateur and professional sport, high school and collegiate athletics administration, and sport promotion and sponsorship. Students majoring in Sport Management are required to select a minor in Business, Sport Media or an area approved by a program advisor.

The Sport Management Major within the Department of Human Performance and Sport has it all. If you are passionate about sports and passionate about learning the business aspects of sports, this program is for you. Content in the Sport Management major includes social media and sport communications, game-day operations, facility & event management, governance & policy, and the administration and management of amateur and professional sport. The courses are designed to inspire and equip you with the knowledge you need to succeed. Denver is one of the greatest sports cities in America and it has endless opportunities.

The MSU Denver campus is located directly across from the Pepsi Center, home of the NBA Denver Nuggets, NHL Colorado Avalanche, and NLL Colorado Mammoth Lacrosse, within walking distance of both Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies and Mile High Stadium home of the Denver Broncos, and a short drive from Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids soccer team. The close proximity to professional sports venues, as well as the presence of several large NCAA Division I and II schools along the front range, provide students with crucial networking and hands-on experiences in the sport industry. The Sport Management program at Metropolitan State University of Denver is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge to work in the business side of sports. Careers in Sport Management include facility management, promotions, sales, marketing, game day and event operations, risk management, media relations, player relations and corporate sales and sponsorship.

There are numerous job opportunities in the city of Denver and state of Colorado with a variety of professional sports teams and arenas as well as collegiate sports, the USA Olympic Training Center, and non-profit sport organizations. In addition, there are many annual sporting events in Colorado including road cycling, mountain biking, ice climbing and multiple winter sports.

Students can earn up to 15 credit hours of real world experiences with two field experiences and a 9 credit hour internship. These applied experiences are vital to the development of skills for individuals seeking a career in the sport industry. Internship placements have been established with USA Rugby, USA Team Handball, USA Boxing, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, Kroenke Sport Enterprises at the Pepsi Center, Aramark, Lacrosse Mammoth/Outlaws, MSU Denver Athletics, University of Denver, Gold Crown Sports Foundation, and many other sport venues and businesses around the state and across the country. The program is also seeking accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). A site visit is planned for September 2016 and the program is expected to be fully accredited in the near future.
